Leeds Utd 0-0 PNE

Preston North End earned a point at Elland Road, in an entertaining match.

The North End fans gave former PNE players David Healy and Eddie Lewis a torrid time. The one time Preston players failed to make any impact in the game as North End came close to snatching three points.

A strong army of fans made the trip across the Yorkshire Pennines to egg Preston on at Elland Road. It was a good match to watch, both side playing end to end football.

North End suffered a blow early on when star player Dave Jones had to be taken off after a bad challenge from Eddie Lewis. Billy Davies's plan went out of the window, the Scot was forced into bringing David Nugent into play.

There were few clear cut chances in the first half, Paul McKenna's strike midway through the first 45 was the closest Preston came to scoring. McKenna was played through from the center of the park, his first touch took the ball away from him but he managed to get his shot away.

Leeds Utd actually found the net in the first half, only for it to be judged offside. North End were winning the battle in midfield, Brain O'Neil was making his first start for months. Patrick Agyemang was having a good first half, his cross from the right side almost gave Preston the opening but Nugent miss-timed his shot.

Leeds offered nothing in the first 45, referee Andy D'Urso brought the first half to an end. Dickson Etuhu came on for O'Neil for the second half, a tactical change from Davis. North End bossed the second half, creating some good opening. Chris Sedgwick had an excellent game and almost netted with brilliant run where he beat three Leeds players.

Sedgwick's run and shot came close, just sailing over the bar. David Healy and Eddie Lewis were having an awful match, the Preston fans booing them both and signing songs about them. What a waste of money, Healy is a w****r, etc. Healy was subbed off for Robbie Blake, Healy was stuck in Claude Davis's pocked throughout the match.

Eddie the "yank" had his chances on goal with two free-kicks. Both shots on goal were calmly saved by the excellent Carlo Nash. David Nugent almost nicked the points towards the end, Preston were all over Leeds. The home side were rocked as Nugent tried to curl his shot round Scotland's No.4 Neil Sullivan.

It was a solid performance from the North End players, a point to be proud of. A point gained and another clean sheet for Nash in goal.
