Wolves 1-3 PNE
By Matty Scott
This was the second midweek away game in 5 days,
1st travelling hundreds of miles to Norwich on Tuesday then tonight
travelling
to Wolves as North End looked for their 1st victory of the
campaign and 1st under Paul Simpson.
The unbelievable prices meant many north enders stayed at
home and watched on sky, Preston went into the game with
just 1 point
from the 1st 2 games and yet to score a goal.
Wolves went ahead
early on through Jay Bothroyd, the former Charlton forward
powered his way past Liam Chilvers
on
the right hand
side before cutting in wrong footing Matt Hill before
beating Carlo
Nash at his front post. Preston fans then feared the
worst until Dave Nugent bagged his 1st of the campaign with
a
clinical volley
after St. Ledger’s sliced shot fell to him.
Preston came back out after half time looking a lot
more confident and deservedly took the lead, the Wolves defenders
backed off
and Nugent punished them cutting inside onto his left
foot and placing
it into the bottom corner leaving the keeper with no chance.
The few North End fans who made the trip to Molineux
were singing their hearts out as Preston were knocking the
ball around for
fun, Simon Whaley then killed the game off in the 90th
minute, minutes
after being pushed up front, the whale picked the ball
up on the left after a miss timed header from the Wolves
defender
before
cutting inside and lashing the ball home to send the
travelling north end army wild.
